Purpose : to persuade the readers or listeners that something should or should not do.
Generic Structure :
Thesis : a topic discussed
Argument : reasons for concern, leading to recommendation
Recommendation : statement of what should or should not do.

Report Text

Purpose : to describe the way things are, with reference to a range of natural, man made and social phenomena in our environment.
Generic structure :
General Classification : introducing the thing that will be talked about.
Description : elaborating and reporting on the subject in detail.

Analytical Exposition

Purpose : to persuade the readers or listeners that something is in the case.
Generic Structure :
Thesis : introduces a topic and indicates the writer’s position and outlines the main arguments to be presented.
Arguments : restates main arguments outlined in preview; develops and supports each point / arguments

Recount Text

Purpose : to retell of factual information or give someone an account of event happened in the past for the purpose of informing
and entertaining.
Generic Structure :
Orientation : Present background information on the who, when, and where of the event.
Events/ sequence of events : The events of the recount are presented in chronological order.

News Item Text

The Purpose of the text : to inform the event of the day which is considered important or newsworthy.
Generic Structure :
- Newsworthy event : to tell the news in summary forms.
- Background event : to explain how, what and why the news happened.
- Sources : what the spokesman commented about the news.
